Florida Doctor Manuel Abreu MD Gives Back With Scholarship

DELRAY BEACH, FL, December 06, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Dr. Manuel Abreu, an experienced internal medicine physician based in Delray Beach, is pleased to announce the establishment of the Dr. Manuel Abreu Scholarship for Future Doctors to support a promising medical student with a $1,000 academic scholarship. As the sole sponsor of this scholarship, Dr. Abreu aims to alleviate the financial burden for a worthy student who intends to positively impact healthcare.

“As a physician who emigrated from Cuba in pursuit of the American dream, I understand the hard work and commitment it takes to practice medicine. The Dr. Manuel Abreu Scholarship for Future Doctors is open to incoming or current medical students who exhibit academic excellence, a passion for enhancing healthcare, and sincere aspirations to become physicians. The $1,000 non-renewable award will be based on merit and financial need.

To qualify, applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:
• Pursuing or plan to pursue an MD or DO in the United States
• Demonstrate community impact and commitment to service
• Strong academic record with competitive test scores
• Embody the qualities of an honorable physician with high ethical standards

In the application, students must submit transcripts, test scores, an essay and a letter of recommendation before the July 15, 2024 deadline. In 800 to 1,300 words, applicants are asked to propose and justify an innovative solution to a major healthcare challenge that requires systemic change.

Dr. Manuel Abreu will personally select and notify the scholarship winner by August 15, 2024. The awardee will embody Dr. Abreu’s values of compassion, integrity, leadership and dedication to advancing healthcare delivery and access.

Dr. Manuel Abreu has been an internal medicine physician with his own private practice in Delray Beach, Florida for over 20 years. He graduated from the Superior Institute of Medical Science in Havana, Cuba before completing residencies in Cuba and the United States. Throughout his career, Dr. Abreu has remained actively involved in providing community health services locally and abroad.

“I continue to volunteer medical services on mission trips to developing countries. As a mentor to students, I aim to promote inclusion and set an example of how future generations of doctors can uplift underserved communities,” commented Dr. Manuel Abreu. “My hope is that this scholarship will allow a gifted, world-changing student to focus on developing the skills to do the same.”
