Where the Horses Heal the Soul, an award-winning documentary about healing through the horse-human connection, screens June 16 at 6:30 PM at AFS Cinema. Hosted by Austin University Area Rotary, to benefit ROCK.

AUSTIN, TX, June 11, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ — Directed by Twila LaBar, the film follows four people at ROCK: two military veterans navigating PTSD and combat injuries, a teenager with Down syndrome stepping into her confidence, and a young woman with cerebral palsy with a passion for advocacy. Through equine assisted services and their bond with horses, each discovers new strength, confidence, and purpose.

“This film is about people who refuse to be defined by diagnosis or labels,” says LaBar. “Their stories show what healing looks like when hope is restored. Horses are an incredible catalyst in that process.”

Where the Horses Heal the Soul has been recognized both nationally and internationally, including official selections at the 2025 Waco Independent Film Festival and Germany’s Equinale Film Festival. The film has also earned top honors at several major festivals:
