Firefighters said that lightning was likely to be blamed for a blaze that set out along Toonigh road in Cherokee Country. That was just one of the several fires raging across the areas.

Gusty winds brought down a tree at Fields Landing Park, and it brought down a power line along with it.  Firefighters called there to cut it up and clear the street.

Back on Toonigh Road, firefighters told Channel 2’s Berndt Petersen that a bolt of lightning hit the roof and the flames raced through the attic. A woman inside got out unhurt.

“The family will be displaced. We have a board-up company coming in to secure it. Her son is here, so she has a place to stay. So, everybody is good,” Robinson said.

In Marietta, strong storms brought a tree down on Steven Crider’s home on Caisson Drive.
