He also performs complex endovascular procedures on patients suffering from peripheral vascular disease at CVI, an outpatient office-based laboratory.
Currently, Dr. Zakir is the director of high-risk PCI and research at Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas University Hospital. He is also a clinical associate professor of medicine at Rutgers Medical School – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and he is involved in research and fellow training. As a leader in interventional cardiology, he serves as principal investigator of several clinical trials to enhance the management of patients with coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease and venous disease. Dr. Zakir has authored numerous papers and is invited faculty at conferences throughout the world. He is a co-founder of the New Jersey Cardiovascular Foundation, which provides educational programs on a quarterly basis, and Cors at the Shore, a comprehensive cardiovascular CME meeting that was successfully held this past June in Ocean Place, Long Branch and will take place annually.
Dr. Zakir is a recipient of numerous awards, including the IAOTP Top Interventional Cardiologist of the Year recognition, which was featured on a billboard in Times Square, New York, as well as the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, Continental Who’s Who Cardiologist of the Year recognition, the Albert Einstein Lifetime Achievement Award, and Best in Medicine recognition by the American Health Council.
